Connection with nature is intrinsic to us as human beings at any age. And we think it’s never too early to nurture that connection. Our nursery group is so much more than a day care. Out in the fresh air, children can move freely and explore their surroundings in a gentle way, a far cry from the sensory overload of a traditional playroom setting. And the forest provides an endless supply of ways to play, come rain or shine: every type of weather presents an opportunity for learning and development, cleverly disguised as adventure!

Our nursery class spends the whole day outside, building shelters for protection from rain or hot sun, and stringing safe hammocks low between the trees for naptime. The group decides together on our activities, anything from looking for streams, to identifying plants or observing mini-beasts and bigger wildlife – and much more. By the end of the day, the children are happy, tired and - according to their parents - sleep extra soundly (before waking up ready to do it all again!).

Numerous studies have linked time spent in green spaces and nature to positive brain and emotional development in children of all ages, and we see this in action every single day. Calmer, happier kids, who trust in themselves, care for each other and have a deep connection with their environment. We emphasise trust and responsibility to instil self-confidence, creating a strong foundation that will carry them into their future education.
